PTI Puts Up Bamboo At Challenging New Heights

A replica bamboo grove by Preserved TreeScapes International (PTI) transforms the lobby of the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport luxury hotel into a soothing, tropical oasis.

PTI's bamboo installation stands 40- to 55-feet tall and accents a
5,000-square-foot reflecting pool in the hotel's eight-story atrium and lobby. The grove absorbs noise, creates a haven of quiet conversation and provides travelers with a tranquil interlude between meetings and flights.

The 11-floor, 400-room, 370,000-square-foot Westin, with its sleek and contemporary design, mirrors the contours of the new airport terminal and features Asian-influenced decor that uses light-colored Anigre wood accents imported from Africa. Bamboo-patterned covers over the ceiling
