Preserved TreeScapes International can create bamboo to any size or specification.
We offer two types of foliage, Oriental or Weeping, and three cane colors, green, black or golden. You can also have just the clean cane with no foliage for that linear look.
We use natural bamboo canes with fabric leaves and when the height or diameter call for a larger diameter (over 2”) or extremely tall cane (over 15’) we turn to our fabricated line to complete the look. The Fabricated canes offer structural stability and will not split or crack like natural canes over 2” in diameter.
Bamboo can be potted or Base plated to your floor and top dressed with rock or moss to finish the look.
PTI Puts Up Bamboo At Challenging New Heights
A replica bamboo grove by Preserved TreeScapes International (PTI) transforms the lobby of the Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport luxury hotel into a soothing, tropical oasis.
PTI's bamboo installation stands 40 to 50 feet tall and accents a 5,000 square foot reflecting pool in the hotel's eight-story atrium and lobby. The grove absorbs noise, creates a haven of quiet conversation and provides travelers with a tranquil interlude between meetings and flights.
The 370,000 square foot Westin Hotel with 11 floors and 400 rooms, was built in a sleek and contemporary design to mirror the contours of the new airport terminal which features Asian-influenced decor that uses light-colored Anigre wood accents imported from Africa. Bamboo-patterned covers over the ceiling lights cast bamboo-shaped shadows on stone floors and mimic the shadows of the Bamboo Grove. Products used in this installation include many 20 to 55 foot Green Bamboo, Preserved Junipers, Preserved Mound Junipers, Replica Grass, Birch Grove and Topiary Privet Globes.
Live Bamboo was originally considered. When Detroit's prestigious Walbridge Aldinger firm began construction in March 2001, initial plans relied on live bamboo and foliage to create a lush green oasis in the main lobby. But things changed when planned skylights were deleted due to value engineering, and the plan for a live bamboo forest had to be revised. Live bamboo is environmentally demanding and requires high natural light levels or supplemental lighting. Additional issues such as drainage and the weight of the three-story planter in the lobby made using a live bamboo forest nearly impossible.
Landscape architect Lee Richardson, of Atlanta's Lee Richardson & Associates, was working in conjunction with PFVS, Portman, Fruchtman, Vinson, and Sunderland Architect. They asked PTI to build a bamboo grove so real in texture and appearance that it would be nearly identical to the real plant.

Because it was so late in the construction phase, no equipment was available to aid this process. However, by working several 16 to 18 hour days, the job was completed by Fri., Dec. 13, 2002, and in time for the Dec. 17th Grand Opening.

PTI arrived on Mon., Dec. 9th, with a very small window of time to deliver plants and instruct a local interior landscaping firm on assembling the 40 to 50 foot bamboo. The replica grove had to be shipped in sections and assembled on site, then hand-lifted up and over the 3-4' rods set for installation.

"The installation of PTI products exceeded my expectations. Additionally, each member of the design team, from the architects, interior designers and Starwood Hotels design staff, to the developer -- Darryl Berger Companies and Northwest Airlines, each of these people were incredibly pleased and happy with how "real" the Bamboo Grove and products looked. I was especially pleased with your company's attention to detail, the extra hard work by your staff and the speedy follow-through of your installation team prior to the Grand Opening."
